Terms and conditions of rent

To rent a car in Kenya, the driver must provide:

✓ A valid driving licence.
✓ A valid passport.

Required renter's age: 21 to 65 years.
Minimum driving experience: 3 years.

A foreign-issued national driving licence must be in English or accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP). If the licence is not in English and is not accompanied by an IDP, an official English translation may be required.

We accept the following payment methods:

✓ Credit or Debit cards, issued by VISA, MasterCard or AMEX
✓ Bank transfers.
✓ Cash

For the deposit, we accept either a credit/debit cards in the main driver's name or cash.

If the customer purchases Full Coverage, no deposit is required.

At the start of the rental, the deposit is taken as a pre-authorisation and is automatically released by the bank within 21 to 30 days, depending on the bank's procedures.

Basic rental rates include an option to limit the renter's maximum liability for damage to or theft of the vehicle through CDW and TP. The excess is set for each vehicle category and is payable by the renter in the event of damage or theft.

This limitation of liability applies only if the renter provides official documents (reports or certificates) from the traffic police confirming the damage, accident or theft. If the vehicle is stolen, the driver must also return the vehicle's keys and documents. Please do not leave the keys or documents in the vehicle.
If the required documents relating to damage, an accident or theft are not provided, the renter is liable for the full amount of the actual loss: the total cost of repairs or, in the event of theft, the value of the vehicle.

If the vehicle is damaged in a collision with another vehicle and official traffic police documents establish that the other party was at fault, the excess will be waived.

We recommend purchasing additional coverage options to reduce the renter's financial liability for damage to the vehicle.

Loss of Use
If an accident or other damage caused by the customer requires the vehicle to be repaired, an additional Loss of Use fee equal to five days' rental will apply

Full Coverage is an additional service comprising SCDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver) and STP (Super Theft Protection). It reduces the renter's financial liability for damage to or theft of the vehicle to zero. For the coverage to apply, the renter must provide an official traffic police report documenting the incident.

Glass and Tire Insurance (GT) is an additional service that reduces the renter's financial liability for damage to the vehicle's glass components and tyres to zero.

Included mileage: Unlimited mileage is included for car rentals in Kenya

Fuel Policy (Same to Same): The vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as at pick-up. If it is returned with less fuel, the missing amount will be charged at the current petrol station price, plus a fixed refuelling service fee of $25

Car Wash Policy: We provide clean vehicles. The vehicle must be returned clean; otherwise, a car wash fee of $50 will apply

Grace period: An additional rental day will be charged if the vehicle is returned more than 59 minutes after the end of rental agreement

No-show: A charge equivalent to two rental days may apply

Driving a rented vehicle from Kenya into Tanzania or Uganda is permitted only with prior approval from Rentmotors Kenya and advance payment of the cross-border fee.

Off-road driving in national parks is prohibited.

• It is prohibited to use the vehicle off public roads, on rough terrain, for crossing water obstacles, or in the forest
• The use of the vehicle in the entrepreneurial activities of the renter or third parties, including as a taxi, is not prmitted
• Subleasing and any other transfer of the vehicle by the Renter to third parties is prohibited
• It is prohibited to dismantle or repair the vehicle, as well as to interfere with the vehicle's design or install additional equipment
• Driving the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or toxic substances is prohibited

We offer child-seat rental, vehicle delivery and return at any address, out-of-hours vehicle collection and other additional services.

An airport fee may apply when the vehicle is collected at the airport.
Additional driver: $8 per day, up to a maximum of $80 per rental
Police fine processing fee: $50
Out-of-hours collection fee: $50
